When to go to Heraklion
May to October is the perfect season. July and August are crowded, but May, June and September offer ideal temperatures (25-30°C).
Where to stay
Heraklion town for museums and city life, Hersonissos for beach and buzz, and Agios Nikolaos for bohemian calm with lake views.
Getting around
The airport–hotel transfer is included. Eastern Crete is better connected by car — a rental is ideal for exploring Knossos or the southern beaches too.
Local food
Try dakos (rusk bread with tomato and feta), local raki and slow-cooked lamb (pliroma). The Cretan diet is recognised as one of the healthiest in the world.

The direct charter flight from Romania to Heraklion airport (HER) takes about 2h, with no stopovers. Charters are available from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași and Timișoara, depending on the week.
The ideal season is May to October. Average summer temperatures are 28–32°C, perfect for the beach and outdoor activities. Eastern Crete is drier than the west.
The official currency is the Euro (EUR). Practical tip: cards are accepted everywhere. We recommend keeping a small amount of cash for tips and local markets.
